BANGKOK, Oct. 1, 2026 — Residents in several parts of Bangkok were surprised by hail on October 1 as heavy rain and strong winds swept across parts of the capital. Some residents said it was the first time they had seen hail falling in Bangkok.

Reports of hail emerged at around 4 p.m., when heavy rainfall affected several areas, including Lat Phrao, Chatuchak, Lak Si, Ratchadaphisek and Mo Chit.

The exact areas affected by the hail have not yet been confirmed. While hail is uncommon in Bangkok, similar incidents have been reported in the capital in the past.

Motorists were advised to drive carefully as heavy rain could significantly reduce visibility and make roads slippery. Residents were also urged to take precautions against strong winds and hail, which could potentially damage buildings, vehicles and other property.

The Thai Meteorological Department reported at 2:40 p.m. that rain clouds had developed over lower Nakhon Nayok, southern Bangkok and Samut Sakhon.

Meanwhile, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) reported light to moderate rainfall across several districts, including Suan Luang, Bang Kapi, Chatuchak, Phaya Thai, Din Daeng, Watthana, Bang Sue, Bang Phlat, Taling Chan, Bang Khae, Thawi Watthana, Nong Khaem and Khlong Toei.

The BMA recorded 49 millimetres of accumulated rainfall in Phasi Charoen district and forecast that a large rain cloud would move over central Bangkok within the following three hours.

Several Thai social media users have expressed concern that further rainfall could worsen flooding in the capital, with some areas still affected by standing floodwater.
