Cambodia and Türkiye Agree to Boost Tourism Cooperation and Promote Direct Flights
ISTANBUL, October 18, 2026— Cambodia and Türkiye have agreed to strengthen bilateral tourism cooperation, expand tourism familiarisation trips and promote investment opportunities in both countries following talks between their tourism ministers in Istanbul on October 16, 2026.
Cambodian Tourism Minister Huot Hak met with his Turkish counterpart, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Minister of Culture and Tourism, to discuss accelerating the implementation of a bilateral tourism cooperation memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on October 21, 2018.
The meeting took place during Prime Minister Hun Manet’s official and working visits to Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Kazakhstan, as well as his participation in the seventh summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
Tourism Exchanges and Investment Promotion
During what Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism described as productive discussions, both sides agreed to strengthen communication and expand familiarisation trips, known as FAM trips, to help tourism stakeholders explore each country’s tourism potential.
The two ministers also agreed to accelerate the practical implementation of the 2018 bilateral tourism cooperation agreement, following guidance from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Both countries highlighted the importance of promoting their tourism attractions and investment opportunities to citizens, businesses and investors in Cambodia and Türkiye.
Direct Flights Between Phnom Penh and Istanbul
The discussions also focused on maximising the benefits of existing direct flights between Phnom Penh and Istanbul to improve connectivity and support tourism exchanges between the two countries.
The ministers’ discussions reflect efforts to translate the existing bilateral cooperation framework into more practical initiatives, including stronger tourism promotion, greater people-to-people exchanges and increased investment opportunities.
Cambodia and Türkiye are seeking to deepen tourism ties by building on their existing agreement and making better use of direct air connectivity between the two countries.
