BREAKING: Cambodia to Join Trilateral Talks with Thailand and China in Yunnan to Advance De-Escalation and Peace
Phnom Penh, 27 December 2025 — His Excellency PRAK Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, will lead a high-level Cambodian delegation to attend a Trilateral Meeting between Cambodia, Thailand, and the People’s Republic of China, scheduled for 28–29 December 2025 in Yunnan Province, China.
The meeting is being convened at the invitation of His Excellency Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, to address recent developments in the current situation between Cambodia and Thailand, with a focus on promoting mutual confidence, de-escalation, and the restoration of peace, security, and stability along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
According to the press release, the trilateral engagement will provide a platform for candid and constructive exchanges, reinforcing diplomatic efforts to consolidate recent ceasefire commitments and encourage sustained dialogue through peaceful and lawful means.
Cambodia expressed high appreciation for China’s constructive role as host and facilitator, underscoring Beijing’s contribution to regional peace and stability by providing an inclusive forum for dialogue and confidence-building. Cambodia reaffirmed its consistent and principled position of resolving differences and disputes exclusively through peaceful means, in full accordance with international law, the United Nations Charter, and the ASEAN Charter.
On the margins of the trilateral meeting, H.E. PRAK Sokhonn will also hold bilateral discussions with H.E. Wang Yi, aimed at further strengthening the comprehensive partnership between Cambodia and China, and advancing cooperation that contributes to peace, security, stability, and sustainable development in the region and beyond.
The meeting is widely viewed as a significant diplomatic step in sustaining momentum toward de-escalation and fostering durable peace between Cambodia and Thailand through dialogue and multilateral engagement.
