Cambodia Calls for Sustained Dialogue After U.S.-Iran Agreement
PHNOM PENH, June 19 (Reuters) – Cambodia has welcomed the recent peace agreement between the United States and Iran, saying it hopes the deal will help consolidate the ceasefire, reduce regional tensions and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement issued on Friday in response to media inquiries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said Cambodia supported the agreement and hoped it would be implemented in good faith to achieve a durable and sustainable peace.
The ministry said Cambodia has consistently supported the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect, and commended those involved in facilitating the agreement.
Cambodia said peace, stability and freedom of navigation in the Middle East are essential for regional and global security, economic growth, international trade and shared prosperity.
It added that reopening the Strait of Hormuz would help restore confidence in global supply chains and contribute to stability in international energy markets.
The ministry also encouraged all parties to build on the agreement through sustained dialogue and constructive engagement to promote lasting peace and stability in the Middle East and beyond.
