Myanmar Man Dies After Falling From Samut Prakan Hostel
PHNOM PENH, 29 June 2026 — A 26-year-old Myanmar national died after falling from the third floor of a hostel in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan, in the early hours of 27 June, with police investigating whether he was attempting to climb between two buildings before the fatal fall.
Police and rescue workers responded to the hostel at around 1.05am after receiving reports that a man had fallen from height. Officers found the body of Ah Toe, 26, lying on a walkway between two hostel buildings. He was wearing only grey boxer shorts, while a hanger containing women’s underwear was found near the body.
A 39-year-old Thai woman staying in a third-floor room told police she heard unusual noises coming from the rear balcony of her room. When she went to check, she saw the deceased attempting to climb onto her balcony. She immediately closed the balcony door before hearing him fall moments later. She then alerted the hostel owner and police.
Investigators found that the deceased had been staying in a hostel building directly opposite the woman’s room, with the two balconies separated by approximately 1.5 metres. A friend of the victim told officers that Ah Toe had been drinking beer alone before the incident while his two roommates had already gone to bed. The friend also said the deceased had recently experienced relationship problems with his girlfriend.
NBT reported that police are continuing to question witnesses and examine evidence to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. Investigators believe the victim may have been attempting to climb across the gap between the buildings to reach the woman’s balcony, or may have had another purpose, before losing his footing and falling. Authorities said further investigation is required before reaching any final conclusions.
