27 Killed as Fire Engulfs Popular Pub in Bangkok
BANGKOK, 13 July 2026 — At least 27 people were killed and 63 others injured after a fire tore through a popular pub in Bangkok late Sunday night, with 22 of the injured reported to be in serious condition.
The fire broke out at around 11.57pm on July 12 at a pub in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district, according to Thai officials.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the scene following the deadly blaze and confirmed that 27 people had died, while dozens of others were taken to hospitals for treatment.
Citing accounts from survivors, Anutin said the pub rapidly filled with thick smoke after the fire broke out, triggering panic among customers as they attempted to escape the building.
People inside the venue reportedly rushed towards a rear passage near the toilets in an attempt to flee the flames and smoke.
However, authorities said the pub did not have a designated emergency fire exit, raising serious questions over the venue’s safety arrangements and evacuation procedures.
Suriyachai Rawiwan, director of Bangkok’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, said a total of 63 people were injured in the fire, including 22 who suffered serious injuries.
Emergency responders rushed victims to hospitals across the capital, while firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control.
The high number of casualties has made the incident one of Thailand’s deadliest recent nightlife venue fires.
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the blaze. Police and relevant agencies have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
Investigators are expected to examine the origin of the blaze, the pub’s fire safety systems and whether the venue complied with building and safety regulations.
The investigation is continuing.
