CMEC Says Cambodia’s Stability Boosts Investor Confidence
BEIJING, 16 July 2026 — China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) has reaffirmed its confidence in Cambodia’s investment climate, citing the country’s political stability and rapid economic development as key factors behind its decision to expand its investment in the Kingdom.
The commitment was made during a meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet and Fang Yanshui, chairman of China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), on 15 July during Hun Manet’s working visit to China to attend the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC).
During the meeting, Fang thanked the Cambodian government and relevant ministries for their continued cooperation and strong support for the company’s operations.
He said Cambodia’s political stability and rapid development have created a solid foundation that gives the company confidence to continue investing in the country.
CMEC has been operating in Cambodia since 2008, focusing primarily on the energy sector and infrastructure development. Fang said the company is currently working closely with local partners to develop a liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plant in Koh Kong province, describing the project as an important contribution to strengthening Cambodia’s future energy security and independence.
He also revealed that CMEC is exploring opportunities to expand its investments into additional sectors, particularly energy and agriculture. In addition, the company is engaging with several Chinese enterprises to encourage them to explore investment opportunities in Cambodia’s high-potential industries.
Hun Manet congratulated CMEC on the success of its global operations and its achievements in Cambodia, while welcoming the company’s continued investment plans.
The prime minister praised CMEC’s cooperation with local partners on the LNG power project, stressing that energy security remains one of the Royal Government’s top priorities.
He noted that investment in Cambodia’s energy sector is aimed not only at meeting growing domestic demand but also at supporting future regional electricity trade under the ASEAN Power Grid initiative.
Hun Manet reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting all investors operating in Cambodia and welcomed CMEC’s interest in expanding into other strategic sectors, encouraging the company to continue exploring new investment opportunities in the country.
