Airstrikes by Thailand Intensify Cambodia–Thailand Border Conflict
Phnom Penh — 8 December 2025 — Early international media reports confirm that Thai military forces have launched airstrikes against Cambodian positions, sharply escalating tensions along the Cambodia–Thailand border and placing recent ceasefire and peace commitments under severe strain.
Major global news organizations have reported the developments. Reuters described the incident as Thailand launching air strikes on Cambodia as border tensions reignite, while CNN reported that the situation threatens the durability of the peace agreement endorsed by international partners. Al Jazeera noted air raids along the border following deadly clashes, and Bloomberg highlighted retaliatory strikes by Thailand following the reported death of a Thai soldier. The Times of India and Channel News Asia likewise confirmed the use of air power in the disputed border areas.
According to early confirmed information, the air operations were conducted by Thai military aircraft targeting locations along sensitive frontier zones, intensifying an already volatile security situation in the border regions. The escalation follows a series of ground-level incidents over recent days, during which Cambodian authorities consistently affirmed restraint and adherence to ceasefire obligations.
Cambodia has reiterated its firm commitment to peaceful resolution of disputes and to the implementation of all bilateral and international agreements governing the border area. Cambodian authorities emphasized that the country has exercised maximum restraint and continues to prioritize stability, dialogue, and the protection of civilian populations.
Diplomatic channels are actively engaged, and regional mechanisms are expected to be mobilized in order to prevent further escalation and preserve peace and security in the region.
