KOH KONG, Feb. 4, 2026 — Cambodia and Thailand failed once again to reach an agreement at a Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting on Wednesday, underscoring persistent difficulties in resolving tensions along their shared frontier despite repeated negotiations.

The meeting, held at the Cham Yeam–Hat Lek international border checkpoint in Koh Kong province, brought together military representatives from Cambodia and Thailand under the observation of the ASEAN Observer Team, Cambodia’s defence ministry said in a statement.

Cambodia’s delegation was led by Major General Mom Samedy, while Thailand’s side was headed by Captain Kittiphon Kunsiripanyo. Officials said both sides “have yet to reach common ground” and agreed to return to their respective headquarters to continue exchanging documents and negotiations.

The talks were conducted under the framework of a joint statement adopted at a General Border Committee (GBC) meeting on Dec. 27, 2025, which committed both sides to easing tensions and restoring normalcy along the border. No date was announced for a follow-up meeting.

Wednesday’s outcome marks the latest in a series of inconclusive RBC talks, following earlier meetings that also ended without consensus, highlighting the slow progress of military-level negotiations aimed at stabilising the Cambodia–Thailand border.
