Phnom Penh — 8 December 2025 —The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia categorically rejects reports disseminated by the official page of the Thai military and certain Thai media outlets alleging that Cambodia initiated hostilities and employed heavy weapons along the Cambodia–Thailand border. These claims are entirely false and misleading.

According to the statement issued early morning today, the Ministry of National Defence affirms that Thai military forces launched the first armed attacks against Cambodian positions in the early morning of 8 December 2025, from approximately 05:00 hours onward. These hostile actions followed a series of sustained provocations carried out by Thai forces over several consecutive days, particularly the serious incident reported on the previous day at the Prorlean Thmar area, reflecting a deliberate attempt to incite confrontation and destabilize the situation along the border.

The statement also mentioned that, in strict adherence to the principles of restraint, respect for existing bilateral agreements, and the peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with international law, Cambodian forces did not return fire during this second incident and have continued to exercise maximum caution and vigilance.

Furthermore, Cambodia has, for the second time, formally informed the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) of these incidents and intends to formally request the AOT to deploy to the affected areas to conduct an independent fact-finding investigation, with a view to ensuring truth, transparency, accountability, and justice.

Cambodia reiterates its unwavering commitment to peace, stability, and the full implementation of all existing agreements, while firmly rejecting any form of disinformation intended to mislead public opinion and justify unlawful acts of aggression.
