BREAKING: Vietnam’s Communist Party Renews Mandate for To Lam To Lam, Reuters

HANOI, Jan 23, 2026 — Vietnam’s Communist Party has voted to retain To Lam as its General Secretary for a further five-year term, according to Reuters.

The decision was taken on Friday by the Party’s Central Committee on the final day of its once-every-five-years national congress, which sets leadership appointments and policy priorities for the coming term. Lam first assumed the role in August 2024, succeeding the late Nguyen Phu Trong, who died in July that year.

Following the conclusion of the congress, Vietnam is scheduled to hold a parliamentary vote in March, with the new legislature expected to convene in April to formally confirm Lam’s appointment.
