Cambodia Advises Travelers to Avoid Transit Through Thailand Amid Reported Harassment
Phnom Penh, 22 December 2025 — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia has issued a formal directive advising Cambodian citizens and foreign travelers to temporarily avoid transiting through Thailand when traveling to Cambodia, citing inappropriate conduct and intimidation by Thai authorities following recent armed hostilities affecting Cambodian territory.
In an official notification addressed to Cambodian Ambassadors, Consuls General, and Honorary Consuls abroad, the Ministry stated that since the outbreak of armed aggression against Cambodia, Thai authorities have engaged in actions that cause serious inconvenience and fear to foreign travelers and Cambodian nationals transiting through Thailand en route to Cambodia.
According to the Ministry, reported measures by Thai authorities include detentions, interrogations, video recordings, and inspections of personal luggage, among other actions deemed improper and intimidating. These practices, the Ministry stressed, have adversely affected the safety, dignity, and freedom of movement of travelers.
To prevent further intimidation and inappropriate conduct, the Ministry has instructed all Cambodian diplomatic missions overseas to inform both Cambodian and foreign travelers to:
- Avoid transiting through Thailand, and
- Temporarily suspend the use of Thai airline services, until further notice is issued by the Royal Government of Cambodia.
The Ministry called on all Cambodian diplomatic and consular representatives to strictly and diligently implement this directive, underscoring the government’s responsibility to protect its citizens and ensure safe and dignified travel arrangements during the current situation.
