Cambodia and China Reaffirm Partnership Amid Escalating Cambodia–Thailand Border Situation
Phnom Penh, 20 December 2025 — On the afternoon of 18 December 2025, His Excellency Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held a telephone conversation with His Excellency Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
During the call, both sides reaffirmed their firm commitment to further strengthening the Cambodia–China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and advancing the building of an all-weather Cambodia–China Community with a Shared Future in the New Era.
His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn briefed Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the latest developments concerning the escalating Cambodia–Thailand border conflict. He reiterated Cambodia’s consistent commitment to the ceasefire agreement, de-escalation measures, and the peaceful settlement of disputes as agreed by both sides, including under the Kuala Lumpur framework of 26 October 2025.
The Deputy Prime Minister underscored Cambodia’s adherence to dialogue, restraint, and international norms, while stressing the urgent need to prevent further escalation and protect civilian lives and stability in the region.
On this occasion, His Excellency Prak Sokhonn expressed Cambodia’s deep appreciation for China’s active engagement and constructive role in promoting peace, dialogue, and confidence-building between Cambodia and Thailand. He welcomed China’s continued support for regional stability and ASEAN-led efforts aimed at restoring calm and fostering a peaceful resolution to the situation.
Both sides agreed to maintain close communication and coordination, reaffirming their shared commitment to peace, stability, and cooperation in the region.
