POIPET, Jan 27, 2026 — Officials from Cambodia and Thailand convened at the Poipet international border crossing on Tuesday to prepare for a special meeting of the bilateral Regional Border Committee (RBC), Cambodia’s defence ministry said.

The meeting brought together the secretariats of the Cambodia–Thailand RBC from Cambodia’s 5th Military Region and Thailand’s 1st Army Area, according to a statement by Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia.

The Cambodian delegation was led by Sar Kimpak, chief of the Cambodian RBC Secretariat, while the Thai side was headed by Phittayakool Pothisuwan, chairman of the Thai RBC Secretariat.

Officials discussed key agenda items and exchanged documents in preparation for a special RBC meeting scheduled for Jan 29, 2026, the ministry said.

The talks were held in line with a joint statement issued at the third special meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) on Dec 27, 2025, with the aim of ensuring its full implementation, building mutual trust and maintaining peace and stability along the border.

The RBC Secretariat meeting is scheduled to run from Jan 27–28 under the observation of the ASEAN Observer Team from both countries, the statement said.
