New York, 15 December 2025 — His Excellency Ambassador Keo Chhea, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the United Nations, reaffirmed that border disputes must be resolved peacefully through dialogue and mutual respect, not through the use of military force, during his statement at the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) Meeting on the “Peaceful Settlement of Border Disputes in Central Asia” held at UN Headquarters in New York.

In his address, Ambassador Keo Chhea informed the Commission that since 7 December 2025, Cambodia has been suffering from a large-scale military invasion by Thai forces, constituting a serious violation of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He underscored that the aggression has resulted in the killing, injury, and displacement of innocent civilians, as well as the destruction of cultural heritage sites and civilian infrastructure, actions that run counter to the principle of good neighborliness enshrined in the UN Charter.

The Cambodian envoy emphasized that peaceful resolution of border disputes is achievable only through mutual trust, respect, and sincere dialogue. However, he stressed that peace cannot be attained when one party rejects dialogue, resorts to military force, and disregards established peaceful mechanisms for dispute settlement.

Cambodia reiterated its unwavering commitment to international law, the UN Charter, and peaceful means of conflict resolution, while calling on the international community to uphold these principles and to oppose the use of force as a means of settling border disputes.
