PHNOM PENH, Jan 19, 2026 — Cambodia’s demining authority said its specialists have cleared multiple unexploded 155mm artillery shells left from past Thai military incursions in Choam Khsant district, Preah Vihear province, highlighting ongoing risks to civilians in border areas.

The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) said some shells were found scattered on the surface while others were buried deep underground or submerged, underscoring the danger posed by wartime ordnance long after fighting has ceased. CMAC said all such munitions must be located and destroyed, regardless of where they are found, to ensure public safety.
