Cambodia, France Discuss Border Dispute, Francophonie Summit in Paris
PARIS, Feb 25, 2026 — Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn held talks with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in Paris on Wednesday, reaffirming bilateral ties and discussing regional developments, including tensions along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
The meeting followed a telephone conversation between the two ministers in December 2025, according to a statement from Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prak Sokhonn reiterated Cambodia’s readiness to host the upcoming Francophonie Summit in 2026 and pledged warm hospitality for participating member states.
On the border situation with Thailand, the Cambodian minister expressed gratitude to France for its support in advocating a peaceful resolution in accordance with international law.
France, a long-standing partner of Cambodia and a key member of the Francophonie community, has historically maintained close diplomatic ties with Phnom Penh.
The two sides also exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, though further details were not disclosed.
