PHNOM PENH, March 6, 2026 — Cambodia will temporarily suspend sending students and workers to Israel and other parts of the Middle East until the security situation stabilizes, Prime Minister Hun Manet said on Friday.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the annual review meeting of the National Authority for Combating Drugs, Hun Manet said the government is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East amid ongoing regional tensions.

He said Cambodian authorities have been instructed to pause new deployments of students and trainees to Israel and other Middle Eastern destinations for the time being.

According to the prime minister, about 487 Cambodian citizens are currently in the Middle East, including more than 280 in Israel.

Hun Manet said Cambodian diplomats and relevant officials must continue monitoring the situation closely and prioritize the safety of Cambodian nationals in the region.
“If necessary, evacuation measures must be carried out in a timely manner,” he said.

The government said the suspension of new deployments will remain in place until the security situation in the region improves.
