Phnom Penh, 13 January 2026 — The Cambodian National Paralympic Committee (CNPC) has formally notified the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) of its decision not to participate in the 13th ASEAN Para Games, scheduled to take place in Thailand from 20 to 26 January 2026.

According to an official letter signed by H.E. Yi Vasna, Secretary-General of the Cambodian National Paralympic Committee, dated 8 January 2026, the decision was taken due to unforeseeable circumstances under which Cambodian athletes and their families would not be able to safely attend the Games.

Despite its withdrawal, Cambodia, as a member country, expressed its high appreciation for the efforts of the ASEAN Para Sports Federation and all relevant stakeholders in organizing the event. The Cambodian side also acknowledged the continued support extended to Cambodia by fellow ASEAN member states and conveyed its hope that the upcoming Games will proceed smoothly and successfully.

The statement recalled that in December 2025, Cambodia likewise made the decision to withdraw from the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, citing serious concerns over the safety and security of its delegation and athletes. Prior to that withdrawal and return to Cambodia, the Cambodian sports delegation had nevertheless participated in the national flag-raising ceremony and the official opening ceremony.

Cambodia’s decision at the time received broad understanding and support from ASEAN member states, particularly in light of the armed aggression by Thai military forces against Cambodia’s sovereignty, which had created an unstable and unsafe environment for participation.
