Cambodia Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful Border Resolution Through JBC Mechanism
Phnom Penh, October 8, 2025 — The Royal Government of Cambodia, through a statement released by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, reaffirmed its commitment to resolving border issues with the Kingdom of Thailand through peaceful and established bilateral mechanisms.
The statement recalled the Agreed Minutes of the 1st Special General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting between Cambodia and Thailand, held on 10 September 2025 in Koh Kong Province. The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. General Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Cambodia, and H.E. General Nattaphon Narkphanit, Acting Minister of Defence of Thailand.
According to the Agreed Minutes, both sides recognized the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) as the appropriate mechanism to address matters related to joint survey and demarcation, particularly concerning the area between Chouk Chey Village, O Bei Chorn Commune, O Chrov District, Banteay Meanchey Province (Cambodia), and Nong Chan Village, Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province (Thailand). The two parties agreed to refer this matter to the next JBC Meeting as a priority agenda and tasked the Regional Border Committee (RBC) to manage the issue in line with the JBC’s forthcoming deliberations.
The statement further noted that the recent delay of the JBC meeting, originally scheduled for September, was due to changes in the composition of the Thai delegation to the JBC.
Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed Cambodia’s hope that the next JBC meeting will convene in the near future, allowing both sides to continue constructive dialogue and cooperation in a spirit of good neighbourliness, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.
The Royal Government reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and friendship along the Cambodia–Thailand border, in accordance with international law and ASEAN principles.
