Cambodia Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful Resolution at Four-Party Meeting in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur, 12 October 2025 — H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, attended the Four-Party Meeting among Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and the United States, held in Kuala Lumpur at the invitation of H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia.
The Meeting reflected the shared desire of all participating countries to attain lasting peace and stability between Cambodia and Thailand, as well as across the wider region. It reaffirmed the collective commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes, the non-use of force, and full respect for international law.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn expressed his sincere appreciation to Malaysia and the United States for their constructive role in facilitating this important dialogue. He stressed the need for sincerity and concrete actions to ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement and all commitments reached under the frameworks of the General Border Committee (GBC), the Regional Border Committee (RBC), and the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC).
“As a nation that has suffered deeply from decades, even centuries, of conflicts, Cambodia understands too well the devastating consequences of war,” he said. “This is precisely why we have always regarded peace as our most precious treasure. Cambodia has consistently stood for the peaceful resolution of disputes in full conformity with international law. We harbor no desire to take what is not ours, but at the same time, we will not accept losing what rightfully belongs to us. What we seek is a fair, just, and rules-based solution—one that ensures long-lasting peace for our peoples.”
H.E. Prak Sokhonn also highlighted several key priority tasks agreed upon by both sides to de-escalate tensions, rebuild trust, and strengthen cooperation. These include the removal of heavy and destructive weapons, advancing humanitarian demining, combating transnational crimes, managing civilian settlements along border areas, and addressing misinformation and fake news.
He reaffirmed Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to work closely with Thailand as permanent neighbors to fulfill their shared responsibilities in restoring normalization, peace, stability, and prosperity for the two nations and peoples.
The Four-Party Meeting concluded with a strong consensus on the importance of dialogue, mutual respect, and adherence to international principles as the foundation for peace and cooperation in the region.
