Cambodia Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful Resolution in Talks with U.S. Secretary of State

Phnom Penh, 25 December 2025 — Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the evening of 25 December 2025 held a telephone discussion with the Honourable Marco Rubio, Secretary of State of the United States, to address recent developments along the Cambodia–Thailand border and to explore concrete ways to secure an immediate ceasefire and advance the implementation of existing peace agreements.

During the discussion, both sides exchanged views on efforts to de-escalate tensions and to prevent further violence along the border. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed that the United States strongly supports the achievement of a sustainable and lasting peace between Cambodia and Thailand and expressed Washington’s readiness to work constructively with relevant parties to help facilitate a ceasefire at the earliest possible opportunity.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reiterated Cambodia’s firm and unwavering commitment to upholding the spirit and principles of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation and strict adherence to all existing bilateral and multilateral agreements. He expressed hope that both sides would demonstrate goodwill and responsibility in advancing the peace process in line with their shared commitments.

The Prime Minister further underscored Cambodia’s consistent position that all border-related issues must be resolved peacefully, through dialogue and established mechanisms, in full accordance with international law and previously agreed principles. Cambodia, he stressed, remains dedicated to pursuing diplomatic solutions aimed at restoring stability, preventing further loss of life, and building lasting peace and good-neighbourly relations between Cambodia and Thailand.
