Cambodia says travel advisories apply only to limited border areas
PHNOM PENH, Jan 20, 2026 — Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism on Sunday reaffirmed that the country remains a safe and stable destination for travelers, responding to recent travel advisories and maps issued by some foreign missions that it said may have caused public misunderstanding.
In a formal notice, the ministry said heightened precautions referenced in some advisories apply only to limited border areas and should not be generalized to the entire country. Major tourist destinations — including Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Preah Sihanouk — continue to operate normally and remain fully open to domestic and international visitors, with safety and security assured, it said.
The ministry added that it remains open to cooperation with foreign diplomatic missions and media, and pledged to provide accurate and timely information to support informed travel decisions. It called on all stakeholders to disseminate balanced and responsible information, stressing that Cambodia’s overall tourism environment remains secure.
