BANTEAY MEANCHEY, Sept. 8, 2026 — Cambodian border forces have intercepted a large consignment of frozen meat suspected of being smuggled from Thailand into Cambodia for domestic distribution, authorities said.

The seizure took place on the afternoon of September 7, 2026, in the area north of Boeung Trakoun, in Kouk Romiet commune, Thmor Pouk district, Banteay Meanchey province.

According to a border report, the seized products included:

  • 33 cartons of pork products, equivalent to 198 pieces;
  • 19 cartons of meatballs, containing 152 packages;
  • 4 cartons of pork offal, containing 16 packages; and
  • 1 carton of chicken products, containing 6 packages.

The operation comes amid continued Cambodian efforts to crack down on the alleged smuggling of frozen food products from Thailand. Cambodian authorities have intensified inspections of Thai-origin frozen meat following a broader government campaign against illegal imports. In June, authorities reported finding more than 200 tonnes of suspected smuggled Thai frozen meat and other products during inspections in Phnom Penh.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of those allegedly involved in the latest seizure or the final disposition of the confiscated products.
