PREAH VIHEAR, March 6, 2026 — Cambodia’s defence ministry on Thursday escorted foreign military attachés from 12 countries to visit Preah Vihear Temple, where officials say the UNESCO World Heritage Site suffered significant damage during clashes along the Cambodian–Thai border in 2025.

The visit, coordinated by the Ministry of National Defence, took place at the historic temple complex in Sra’em commune, Choam Khsant district, Preah Vihear province.

According to Cambodian officials, two major attacks involving heavy weapons — including aerial strikes using drones and fighter jets — caused severe damage to the temple’s physical structure and surrounding areas.

Authorities said the visit aimed to provide international military representatives with a direct assessment of the site and the impact of the fighting.

Preah Vihear Temple, a centuries-old monument perched along the Cambodia–Thailand border, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered one of Cambodia’s most important cultural and historical landmarks.

The inspection formed part of a series of visits organized by Cambodia to brief foreign military attachés on the situation along the border following a ceasefire that took effect on Dec. 27, 2025.
