PHNOM PENH, March 30, 2026 — Cambodia is accelerating regional digital payment integration with the rollout of cross-border QR code payments, enabling seamless transactions for Singaporean travelers and boosting the country’s tourism and business environment.

The new system allows visitors from Singapore to pay for goods and services across Cambodia using QR codes, eliminating the need for cash exchange while improving convenience, speed and transaction security.

Officials say the initiative is expected to support tourism growth, enhance business efficiency and strengthen the use of Cambodia’s domestic currency through increased digital transactions.

“This marks an important step in connecting people, businesses and economies between the two countries,” said Chan Mach, noting that Singapore represents the group’s origins while Cambodia offers strong growth opportunities.

The launch reflects a broader shift toward cashless cross-border commerce, reducing transaction friction and enabling real-time payments across ASEAN markets.

The system is also designed to empower micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Cambodia, allowing them to accept international digital payments through the KHQR system widely used across the country.

Analysts say the initiative could act as a catalyst for deeper regional financial integration, supporting ASEAN’s goal of a unified digital economy while boosting bilateral trade and tourism flows.

Beyond convenience, the move is expected to improve financial inclusion and reduce transaction costs for local businesses, particularly smaller enterprises that rely heavily on tourism.
