Cambodia Strengthens Agro-Trade Ties With China Through Cashew Deal
PHNOM PENH, March 12, 2026 — Cambodia has signed an agreement to export in-shell cashew nuts to China, starting with shipments worth about $35 million and with plans to expand the trade to $400 million, officials said.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between China Bonded Port Group Co., Ltd. and Cambodian firm Men Sarun MDR Co., Ltd., during a meeting at Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce.
Cambodia’s Secretary of State for Commerce Samheng Bora, who also chairs the Export Promotion Task Force (EPTF), witnessed the signing ceremony attended by Chinese business representatives led by Jiang Xiaofei of the China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy (CIIDS).
Officials said the agreement aims to strengthen bilateral trade and investment cooperation between Cambodia and China while expanding exports of Cambodian agricultural products.
Under the deal, Cambodia will initially export M23-grade in-shell cashew nuts to the Chinese market, with the value of shipments expected to rise significantly in the future.
The Ministry of Commerce said the agreement highlights growing agro-industry cooperation between the two countries and could help attract more Chinese investment into Cambodia’s agricultural sector while boosting the country’s global agricultural exports.
