Cambodia strongly rejects false information spread by “Royal Thai Army: Update.”
Phnom Penh, 20 September 2025 – The State Secretariat of Border Affairs (SSBA) has issued an official statement firmly rejecting and condemning false information recently circulated by a Facebook Page named “Royal Thai Army: Update.”
On 19 September 2025, the page published a post containing field plans and coordinates of Boundary Pillars No. 42 and No. 43 in the Prey Chan area, claiming that Cambodian authorities, particularly H.E. Lay Siengly, had signed and recognized the boundary line between the two markers.
The SSBA categorically dismissed this information as false, unprofessional, and malicious, stressing that it deliberately misused official documents and distorted facts with the intention of misleading both national and international audiences.
Clarification by the SSBA
To set the record straight, the SSBA outlined the following:
- The materials displayed in the Facebook post are merely field plans and terrain sketches annexed to reports of the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Survey Team dated 24 November 2017 and 28 December 2016. These reports documented the technical condition and locations of Boundary Pillars No. 42 and 43, which were originally installed during the French colonial period. They do not constitute official maps nor boundary-defining documents.
- The administrator of the page fabricated a false boundary line by overlaying these field sketches onto a satellite image, misleading the public into believing that the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Survey Teams had recognized such a line.
- The Prey Chan area between Boundary Pillars No. 42 and 43 remains a location where no bilateral agreement has yet been reached. Resolution of this matter lies exclusively under the authority of the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), and no other mechanism or institution has the mandate to make such determinations.
Official Call to the Public
The SSBA strongly rejected the fabricated claims and called upon both national and international communities not to believe or share fake news. It also urged the public and media outlets to help widely disseminate this official statement in order to counter disinformation and uphold the truth.
