Cambodia to Maintain Long-Term Effort to Eliminate Online Scams
PHNOM PENH, March 6, 2026 — Cambodia will continue its campaign against online scam operations on a permanent basis, Prime Minister Hun Manet said on Friday, stressing that the effort will not end after the current crackdown expected to intensify in April.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the annual meeting of the National Authority for Combating Drugs, Hun Manet said the government’s effort to eliminate online scams would be an ongoing campaign aimed at protecting Cambodia’s economy and society.
“This is not a one-time crackdown,” he said. “We are cleaning up and maintaining the environment so the country does not become stained by online scam activities that affect our socio-economic development.”
Hun Manet said some comments about the government’s campaign had been misinterpreted, with speculation that the operation would end next month.
The prime minister acknowledged that online scams exist in Cambodia, but said authorities are continuing operations to dismantle such networks.
He also warned that property owners could face responsibility if their buildings are rented to criminal groups involved in online fraud, adding that landlords cannot claim ignorance if illegal activities take place on their premises.
Hun Manet noted that online scams are a global problem affecting many countries, and said Cambodia will continue strengthening enforcement efforts to combat cyber-related crimes.
