Cambodia Warns Against ‘Changing Borders by Force’ in Protest to Thailand
Phnom Penh, Feb. 11, 2026 — Cambodia’s foreign ministry on Wednesday issued a formal protest against what it described as unlawful activities carried out by Thai armed forces in border areas of Banteay Meanchey province.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia said local authorities had reported the demolition of additional civilian infrastructure and administrative buildings in the Boeung Trakoun area, located between Boundary Pillars No. 33 and 36 in Thmar Puok district.
The ministry also alleged that in Chouk Chey village, O Bei Chorn commune in O Chrov district — between Boundary Pillars No. 46 and 47 — Thai forces had constructed a ditch and a road and filled in a pond.
Cambodia said the activities altered the terrain and amounted to an attempt to legitimize what it called the unlawful occupation of Cambodian territory.
The statement said the actions contravened the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter and previously agreed de-escalation measures under the General Border Committee and the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Boundary Commission.
Phnom Penh reaffirmed its commitment to resolving boundary disputes peacefully in accordance with international law, while stressing that borders must not be changed by force.
