PHNOM PENH, March 25, 2026 — Cambodia’s military has rejected remarks by a former Thai army commander suggesting Phnom Penh could deploy troops to quietly occupy areas along the disputed border, stressing its commitment to restraint and peaceful relations.

Brigadier General Nit Narong, deputy chief of staff of Cambodia’s Military Region 4, said the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces have “no intention” of taking actions that could provoke tensions or create misunderstandings with neighbouring countries.

His response followed comments by a former deputy commander of Thailand’s 2nd Army Region, who warned of possible Cambodian troop movements near the Ta Krabei temple area and described such tactics as a traditional strategy.

Nit Narong said Cambodian forces continue to exercise “high patience” and strictly follow the directives of national leadership, emphasising that the military has not engaged in provocative rhetoric or actions.

He called for both sides to work together to maintain peace and stability along the Cambodia–Thailand border, for the benefit of communities living in the area.

The statement comes amid heightened sensitivity along disputed border zones, where both countries have repeatedly stressed the importance of dialogue and adherence to existing agreements to avoid escalation.
