Phnom Penh, October 7, 2025 — The Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia has issued a statement expressing its deep regret and strongest condemnation of the recent offensive and disrespectful act committed against Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, and other Cambodian dignitaries.

The Senate described the act as a grave affront to human dignity, moral values, and mutual respect between nations, warning that such behavior undermines the spirit of good neighbourliness, friendship, and peaceful coexistence that form the foundation of relations between Cambodia and Thailand, as well as within ASEAN and the broader international community.

The Senate praised Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s wise, restrained, and statesmanlike response, which it said reflects his deep sense of moral leadership and responsibility. In the face of provocation, Samdech Techo called on all Cambodians to remain calm, avoid retaliation, and uphold national unity and tolerance, demonstrating Cambodia’s enduring commitment to peace and moral integrity.

The Senate also voiced its full support for Samdech Techo’s appeal to strengthen Cambodia’s economic and financial sovereignty, emphasizing the importance of promoting national self-reliance and reducing external dependence.

At the same time, the Senate urged the Government of Thailand to take appropriate measures to address the matter in a manner befitting a civilized and noble nation, and to ensure that similar incidents do not recur.

Reaffirming Cambodia’s dedication to peace and cooperation, the Senate underscored that friendship between Cambodia and Thailand must be based on mutual understanding, respect, and equality, principles essential for lasting harmony and stability in the region.
