PHNOM PENH, March 8, 2026 — Cambodia is set to connect Southeast Asia’s largest solar power project to its national electricity grid in the coming days, officials said, marking a major step in the country’s renewable energy expansion.

The Chheu Tom solar power complex, located in Krakor district, Pursat province, has a total generating capacity of 930 megawatts (MW), making it the largest solar energy facility in Southeast Asia.

The project is situated in Kandal and Krang Khvuen villages in Chheu Tom commune and is expected to begin supplying electricity to Cambodia’s national grid later in March.

Once operational, the facility will surpass the Dau Tieng Solar Power Complex in Vietnam, which has a capacity of about 500 MW, previously one of the largest solar installations in the region.

Officials say the project will significantly strengthen Cambodia’s energy supply and support the government’s broader strategy to expand renewable energy sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
