China Welcomes Cambodia–Thailand Joint Statement, Pledges Constructive Role to Consolidate Ceasefire
Beijing, 27 December 2025 — China has welcomed the joint statement between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand agreeing to an immediate ceasefire, affirming that the agreement demonstrates dialogue and consultation as viable and effective means for resolving complex disputes.
In a statement released on Saturday, China emphasized that China, ASEAN, and the broader international community have made concerted efforts to support the de-escalation process and facilitate conditions conducive to peace.
China reaffirmed its readiness to continue providing platforms and creating favorable conditions for Cambodia and Thailand to engage in fuller, more substantive, and detailed communication, aimed at strengthening mutual understanding and restoring stability along the border.
The statement further confirmed that Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, will meet H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, and H.E. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, in Yunnan Province from 28 to 29 December. Military representatives from all three countries are also expected to participate in the discussions.
China underscored that it will continue to play a constructive role, in its own way, in supporting Cambodia and Thailand to consolidate the ceasefire, resume exchanges, rebuild political trust, advance bilateral relations, and safeguard peace and stability in the region.
