Chinese Music Teacher Goes Missing After Arriving in Bangkok

BANGKOK, Oct. 5, 2026 — The Chinese Embassy in Thailand has urged Thai authorities to expedite efforts to locate a 33-year-old music teacher from Shanghai who has been missing in Bangkok since September 25.

According to Chinese media reports, the embassy received a request for assistance on October 2 and subsequently notified Thai police of the case. The missing man’s family has authorized a representative in Thailand to file a police report, while the embassy has called on Thai authorities to determine his whereabouts as soon as possible.

The man, identified by his surname Wang, reportedly travelled from Shanghai to Bangkok on the evening of September 24. He remained in contact with relatives and friends through WeChat during the day on September 25, but his phone was switched off that evening and he has not been reachable since.

Wang’s school confirmed that he is a teacher at the institution. After the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday ended, the school found that he had not returned to work as expected. It then contacted his family and learned that he was missing. His family has reported the case to police, while the school said it is fully supporting the family and cooperating with the investigation.

The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not publicly confirmed what happened to Wang or his current whereabouts.

Separately, reports circulating online have mentioned a possible sighting in Bangkok involving a distressed man who claimed to be from Shanghai. However, Thai police and Chinese authorities have not confirmed that the man was Wang, and the reported encounter should therefore be treated as an unverified lead rather than evidence of his whereabouts.

The Chinese Embassy has urged Thai authorities to continue their efforts to locate Wang, while the investigation remains ongoing.
