PHNOM PENH, Jan 26, 2026 — Cambodia’s Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) on Monday urged residents in provinces bordering Thailand to exercise heightened caution over unexploded M46 cluster bomblets, which it said had been found in civilian areas.

In a statement posted on its official social media platforms, CMAC said the submunitions were believed to have been used by Thai forces against Cambodia and that many had been discovered near or inside residential areas.

“These are M46 cluster bomblets that have been used against Cambodia and are frequently found in people’s living areas,” CMAC said, posting images of the device. “Residents, especially those in high-risk areas, are urged not to touch them and to immediately report sightings to CMAC.”

The agency called on families to warn children and relatives living in border areas of the danger posed by unexploded ordnance, noting the continued risk to civilian safety.

Cluster munitions are prohibited under international law. The Convention on Cluster Munitions, which entered into force in 2010, bans the use, production, transfer and stockpiling of such weapons. A total of 123 countries are party to the convention, according to the treaty.

Thailand has not publicly commented on CMAC’s statement.
