ODDAR MEANCHEY, April 2, 2026 — Cambodian demining forces have successfully neutralized a powerful 230kg aerial bomb dropped by Thai aircraft, in a high-risk operation that underscores the country’s unwavering commitment to protecting its sovereignty and ensuring the safety of its people.

Heng Ratana, Director General of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), confirmed that the MK-82 bomb was safely defused by elite CMAC specialists after being discovered buried more than 13 metres underground in Oddar Meanchey province.

The bomb — manufactured in 2010 and later equipped with additional components — was dropped on Cambodian territory on December 10, 2025, during cross-border tensions, posing a long-term threat to civilians and local development.

Despite the extreme danger, Cambodian demining teams carried out the operation with precision and professionalism, preventing what could have been a devastating incident.

Heng Ratana praised frontline CMAC personnel for their courage and sacrifice, emphasizing that their work is critical to safeguarding lives, restoring stability, and enabling communities to rebuild in the aftermath of conflict.

The successful operation highlights Cambodia’s continued resolve to remove all remnants of war from its soil and defend its territorial integrity, while advancing post-ceasefire recovery under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet.

Cambodia remains one of the most heavily bombed countries in history, with more than 1.2 million aerial bombs dropped between 1962 and 1975. Today, the Kingdom continues to confront the lasting legacy of war — not with fear, but with determination, expertise, and national unity.
