Former Thai FM Urges Government to Pursue Dialogue Over Military Force
Bangkok, 14 December 2025 — Former Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya has publicly advised the Thai government to prioritize negotiations with Cambodia rather than resorting to military force, amid escalating tensions along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
In an interview with Thai PBS, published on 11 December, Mr. Kasit emphasized that dialogue remains the most responsible and sustainable path toward resolving bilateral disputes. He criticized groups and individuals who actively encourage confrontation, noting that those advocating conflict are not the ones bearing arms or facing the dangers of the battlefield.
Mr. Kasit underscored that it is soldiers who ultimately pay the highest price—sacrificing their lives to satisfy the ambitions or emotions of others, and warned that continued militarization risks unnecessary loss of life and long-term damage to bilateral relations.
His remarks come amid growing regional and international calls for restraint, diplomacy, and the peaceful resolution of disputes, reinforcing concerns that further escalation could undermine stability and security in the region.
