Paris, 23 December 2025 — The French Republic has officially designated a public garden in the city of Fère-en-Tardenois as “Norodom Sihanouk Garden,” honoring the late His Majesty King-Father Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia, a towering figure in Cambodia’s modern history and peace process.

According to an official statement shared on 23 December 2025 by H.E. Louy David, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the French Republic, the naming decision reflects France’s recognition of the historical and symbolic significance of Fère-en-Tardenois in Cambodia’s path toward peace.

Fère-en-Tardenois is a historic city where the first landmark dialogue took place in 1987 between His Majesty King Norodom Sihanouk and Samdech Techo Hun Sen, then Prime Minister of Cambodia. That initial meeting laid the critical groundwork for subsequent negotiations, ultimately leading to the Paris Peace Agreements of 1991, which brought an end to decades of conflict and restored peace to Cambodia.

The dedication of “Norodom Sihanouk Garden” stands as a lasting tribute to King-Father Norodom Sihanouk’s role in national reconciliation and international diplomacy, and underscores the enduring friendship between Cambodia and France, as well as France’s historic contribution to the Cambodian peace process.

The initiative also serves as a symbol of shared commitment to peace, dialogue, and reconciliation—values that continue to guide relations between the two nations today.
