Fuel Supply Pressure Mounts as Thailand Orders Reserve Release
BANGKOK, March 23, 2026 — Thailand has ordered oil traders to release fuel reserves immediately, as authorities move to prevent worsening shortages and stabilise domestic supply.
A prime ministerial order published in the Royal Gazette on Sunday instructs fuel operators to make reserves available for public and business use, amid growing concerns over tightening availability in parts of the country.
The directive amends an earlier order issued on March 6, removing restrictions that had limited the release of fuel stockpiles. Officials said the revised measure is intended to speed up distribution and ensure broader access to supplies.
The order takes effect immediately.
The move comes as Thailand faces pressure on fuel availability, with recent disruptions and rising demand prompting concerns over potential shortages, particularly in affected regions.
Analysts say the decision reflects increasing urgency by authorities to manage supply flows and prevent further strain on transport, industry and daily consumption.
