PHNOM PENH, Feb. 1, 2026 — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said Phnom Penh’s Chaktomuk Walk Street has become one of the capital’s most popular tourist attractions, drawing between 80,000 and 100,000 visitors every Saturday and Sunday after one year of operation.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Hun Manet marked the first anniversary of the pedestrian-only zone along Sisowath Quay, which runs from Street 94 to Street 240 in Daun Penh district. The area has been closed to all vehicles from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. every weekend since February 1, 2025.

The prime minister said Chaktomuk Walk Street has boosted local livelihoods, creating nearly 1,400 income-generating opportunities, including about 1,000 informal vendors and 400 stalls operating along the route.

Hun Manet also highlighted Phnom Penh’s growing international profile, saying the capital was recently ranked second globally for nightlife and 10th worldwide among most-visited tourist cities, and was named by the BBC as one of the top 20 global travel destinations for 2026.

He attributed the success of the project to cooperation among municipal authorities, civil servants, security forces and strong public support, calling the walking street a symbol of Phnom Penh’s expanding urban tourism and night-time economy.
