Hun Manet pledges tough action as Cambodia targets online scam networks
PHNOM PENH, Feb. 5, 2026 — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Thursday called for a nationwide crackdown on crime, urging officials and law enforcement to “clean up our own house” and warning that no one involved in criminal activity would be spared punishment.
Speaking at the closing session of the Ministry of Interior’s annual conference, Hun Manet said authorities must act decisively to eliminate social ills, with particular focus on technology-based fraud, or online scam operations.
“We must unite and commit to cleaning up our house, driving out all wrongdoing from the country,” he said. “There will be no exceptions.”
The prime minister warned that officials found complicit in criminal activities would face strict disciplinary and legal action under what he described as a “surgical” enforcement approach.
Hun Manet stressed the urgency of tackling a wide range of crimes, including cyber fraud, drug trafficking, human trafficking, gang violence and traffic-related offences, calling them major threats to public safety and social order.
He also urged the public to support the government’s campaign, saying strong cooperation between citizens and authorities was essential to restore security and ensure long-term stability.
The remarks come as Cambodia intensifies efforts to dismantle transnational online scam networks and tighten accountability within law enforcement and public institutions.
