PHNOM PENH, April 3, 2026 — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Friday ordered a full investigation into alleged illegal fuel smuggling from Thailand, reaffirming the government’s firm stance on energy security and regulatory enforcement.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Hun Manet said he had instructed the Minister of Mines and Energy, the National Police Chief, and the head of the General Department of Customs and Excise to thoroughly investigate reports circulating in Thai media about illicit fuel imports into Cambodia.

“If the allegations are true, all individuals involved must be identified and face the strictest legal action,” the prime minister said.

He warned that any company found complicit would have its operating license revoked, while any public officials or members of the armed forces involved would be dismissed from their positions regardless of rank.

The directive highlights Cambodia’s intensified efforts to safeguard its energy sector and enforce transparency in fuel supply chains.

Hun Manet stressed that Cambodia has suspended all imports of petroleum and liquefied gas from Thailand since June 2025, adding that the country no longer depends on Thai fuel supplies.

Instead, Cambodia has secured sufficient fuel imports from alternative international sources, ensuring stable supply across the country despite regional uncertainties.

The government’s swift response underscores its broader strategy to strengthen energy independence, maintain market stability, and prevent illegal activities that could undermine national interests.
