Hun Sen Declares “Red Line” Set, Urges Discipline As Thai Attacks Continue Along Cambodia–Thailand Border
Phnom Penh —8 December 2025 — Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced on the morning of 8 December 2025 that Cambodia has clearly defined its “Red Line” of response, and instructed commanders at all levels to ensure that all officers and soldiers fully understand and strictly observe these directives.
The statement was issued following two consecutive days of armed attacks by Thai military forces against Cambodian positions. On the previous day, Thai forces launched assaults on the Prorlean Thmar area in Choam Kshant District, Preah Vihear Province. Earlier this morning, from approximately 05:04 AM, Thai forces opened fire on Cambodian units in the An Ses area, and subsequently fired tank shells toward Tamoan Thom Temple, as well as positions near Preah Vihear Temple (Point 5 Makara) and the Chomka Chek area.
In a public message, Samdech Techo Hun Sen emphasized that frontline forces must exercise maximum restraint, stating that the aggressor is deliberately using a wide range of weapons to provoke Cambodia into retaliation, with the intention of undermining the ceasefire and the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Peace Declaration.
“The red line for response has already been set. All commanders at every level must educate and ensure that all officers and soldiers fully understand this directive,” he stated.
He further instructed all relevant authorities to actively assist civilians evacuating from danger zones to safe areas, emphasizing the Government’s priority on civilian protection.
In light of the seriousness of the situation, Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced the cancellation of all other official engagements in order to join the Prime Minister in directing the armed forces to defend national sovereignty against acts of aggression. He also extended his apologies and understanding to national and international guests who were unable to meet with him due to this emergency situation.
At the same time, he called upon Cambodian athletes and officials participating in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand to continue their participation normally and responsibly, underscoring Cambodia’s commitment to sportsmanship, regional solidarity, and non-politicization of sporting events.
