On the evening of Wednesday, 24 September 2025, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, posted a message on his official Facebook page, accompanied by more than 40 photographs, marking the 27th anniversary of the assassination attempt against him in Siem Reap Province. In his message, Samdech Techo expressed his hope to live for at least another 27 years.

It is worth recalling that on 24 September 1998, while attending a swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected National Assembly at Angkor Wat, the motorcade of Samdech Techo Hun Sen came under attack by four B-40 rockets in an assassination attempt. Due to heavy rainfall at the time, only one rocket exploded, and it failed to hit Samdech Techo’s vehicle.

In his post, Samdech Techo Hun Sen stressed:

… If I had died or been injured at that time, Cambodia would not have the peace and development it enjoys today, because the founder of the win-win policy would have perished. And even if I had only been wounded, many politicians in Siem Reap City would also have lost their lives.
