Phnom Penh, 7 January 2026 — Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has strongly condemned Thailand for launching military attacks on Cambodian sovereign territory, accusing Thai armed forces of serious violations of Cambodia’s territorial integrity, the UN Charter, the ASEAN Charter, and international humanitarian law.

In a national address marking the 47th Anniversary of 7 January Victory Day, Hun Sen stated that Thai forces opened fire on Cambodian troops and civilian areas along the border, causing grave harm to civilians and national heritage sites. He affirmed that Cambodian forces exercised their right to self-defense, while the Royal Government continued to show restraint and pursue a peaceful solution.

Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia’s strict adherence to the 27 December 2025 ceasefire and the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration, stressing that Cambodia seeks peace but will make no concession on sovereignty or dignity. He called on the international community to uphold international law and support lasting peace along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
