ICRC Conducts Humanitarian Assessment in Cambodia’s Battambang Province
BATTAMBANG, Feb 9, 2026 — A delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has begun an on-site assessment of the humanitarian impact on civilians in Cambodia’s Battambang province following cross-border hostilities, local officials said on Monday.
The ICRC team, led by mission chief Dorsa Nazemi Salman, met provincial authorities and representatives of the Cambodian Red Cross on Monday morning to coordinate an independent evaluation of civilian harm linked to armed clashes along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
According to provincial officials, the visit aims to assess and document humanitarian consequences in affected communities, including impacts on civilians, infrastructure and cultural heritage, in line with the ICRC’s mandate under the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law.
The delegation is expected to visit communities directly affected by the fighting to gather first-hand information and conduct field assessments, officials said.
The ICRC said its mission focuses on impartial evaluation of humanitarian needs and the protection of civilians in situations of armed conflict, in accordance with international humanitarian principles.
