BANGKOK, October 17, 2026 — The Israeli Embassy in Thailand has urged the public to verify information before sharing social media claims about Israeli nationals, warning that misinformation can fuel fear, deepen misunderstandings and unfairly damage entire communities.

In a video published on October 16, Rami Teplitskiy, the embassy’s deputy chief of mission, addressed recent online allegations involving Israeli tourists in Phuket and Koh Phangan. He encouraged social media users to examine the sources and credibility of reports rather than relying on headlines alone.

Embassy challenges Phuket theft allegations

Teplitskiy referred to an incident in Patong, Phuket, in which two tourists were accused of taking goods from a convenience store without paying.

While acknowledging that the incident occurred, he said claims identifying the tourists as Israeli were false. According to Teplitskiy, Thai police and subsequent news reports confirmed that the individuals involved were of other nationalities.

The embassy said misleading online stories about Israelis in Thailand had recently circulated, including allegations involving theft, mass migration and other inappropriate behaviour.

“Don’t believe just headlines,” Teplitskiy said, urging the public to assess the reliability of information before accepting or sharing it.

The Israeli diplomat also addressed online claims that large numbers of Israeli flags had been displayed around Koh Phangan.

He said local authorities investigated the reports and confirmed that the alleged incident had not occurred. The images circulated online were fabricated using artificial intelligence, according to Teplitskiy.

The embassy said it welcomed legitimate concerns and open discussion but stressed that public debate should be grounded in verified information.

“Fake news does more than spread incorrect information. It can create fear, deepen misunderstanding, and unfairly harm individuals and entire communities,” the embassy said.

Call for fact-checking and responsible sharing

Teplitskiy acknowledged that misconduct can occur anywhere and said individuals should be held accountable for their actions. However, he cautioned against drawing conclusions about Israelis or Israel based on unverified reports.

The embassy also thanked the Thai public for its hospitality, saying accurate understanding and responsible communication were essential to maintaining lasting friendship.

The statement comes amid online discussions about Israeli visitors in Thailand, with the embassy urging users to distinguish verified incidents from misleading claims and fabricated images before sharing them.
