Japan Grants $1.5 Million to Support Cambodia Border Communities
Phnom Penh, Feb. 12, 2026 — Japan has pledged 220 million yen (about $1.5 million) in grant aid to support livelihoods and nutrition in Cambodian communities affected by recent border conflict, officials said on Wednesday.
Japanese Ambassador UENO Atsushi signed the Exchange of Notes for the project alongside Kyungnan Park, representative of the World Food Programme Cambodia office. Cambodia’s Senior Minister KUN Kim also attended the ceremony.
The project, titled “Livelihoods Recovery and Nutritional Fortification in Communities Affected by the Border Conflict,” will provide fortified rice and food vouchers to displaced people, returnees and migrant workers in border areas.
Officials said the assistance aims to support the reconstruction of damaged basic infrastructure, restore livelihoods and improve nutrition among vulnerable populations.
Japan is one of Cambodia’s largest development partners and has supported humanitarian relief, infrastructure and social protection programs in the country for decades.
