Labour Ministry Ready to Absorb More Migrants Returning from Thailand
PHNOM PENH, March 31, 2026 — Cambodia’s government has reaffirmed its strong readiness to protect and support its citizens, as more migrant workers continue returning from Thailand, with authorities mobilizing extensive job opportunities, training programs and social protections to ensure their smooth reintegration.
Ministry of Labour spokesman Sun Mesa said on Tuesday the government has fully prepared tens of thousands of jobs nationwide, ensuring that returning workers will not be left behind.
“We are ready in every aspect — employment, training and social protection — to welcome our workers back home with dignity and opportunity,” he said.
Officials emphasized that Cambodia today offers competitive wages comparable to Thailand, along with stronger worker protections, including healthcare under the National Social Security Fund, workplace accident insurance and pension benefits — safeguards often unavailable to undocumented workers abroad.
The government has also rolled out short-term vocational training programs, with financial support provided from the first day, enabling workers without prior skills to quickly integrate into the labor market.
Authorities urged Cambodian workers to return home voluntarily, stressing that the government stands ready to support all citizens — regardless of documentation status — and ensure their safety, dignity and economic security.
The latest measures come as more Cambodian migrant workers are returning from Thailand, driven by evolving conditions across the border. Phnom Penh has responded decisively, demonstrating strong governance and a proactive approach to safeguarding livelihoods.
To date, more than 650,000 returning workers have already secured employment, including over 330,000 in the formal sector and around 320,000 in informal jobs — a clear sign of the country’s capacity to absorb its workforce and maintain economic stability.
Analysts say Cambodia’s swift and comprehensive response highlights the government’s commitment to national resilience, economic independence and the well-being of its people.
